B. Optometry

The Department of Optometry at Sri Shanmugha Institute of Medical Science & Research (SIMSAR) is committed to producing competent eye-care professionals who can diagnose, manage, and treat vision-related disorders. With a strong foundation in clinical optometry and practical training, the department prepares students to work in hospitals, eye-care centers, optical industries, and global healthcare environments.

The department features advanced Optometry Labs, Vision Testing Units, Refraction Setups, Orthoptic clinics, Contact Lens Clinics, Low Vision Clinics, and Optical Dispensing Units. Students receive in-depth training in clinical examination, refraction, optical dispensing, contact lens fitting, binocular vision assessment, and ocular disease identification. SIMSAR’s strong clinical tie-ups ensure students gain real-world experience under expert ophthalmologists.

B.Optometry is a 4-year undergraduate program that trains students to provide primary eye care professional, focusing on vision testing, diagnosing, and managing eye diseases, prescribing corrective lenses (glasses/contacts), and offering vision therapy, covering anatomy, optics, and clinical skills to ensure comprehensive eye health and support ophthalmologists in managing ocular diseases.
