Courses Offered

B.Sc. Operation Theatre & Anaesthesia Technology (OTAT)

(Undergraduate Program – Sri Shanmugha Institute of Allied Health Science)

About The Department

The Department of Operation Theatre & Anaesthesia Technology (OTAT) at SIMSAR & AHS is built on a strong foundation of surgical sciences, critical care, and anaesthesia practice. The department aims to develop highly efficient technologists who can support complex surgical procedures with precision, discipline, and clinical expertise.

The department functions with modern simulation facilities, experienced OT trainers, and clinical experts who ensure students gain deep understanding of patient safety, surgical environment control, and perioperative care. By integrating theory, laboratory practice, and real-time operation theatre exposure, the department prepares students to work in multi-specialty hospitals, emergency departments, and advanced surgical units.

Department Strengths

  • Highly qualified and experienced OT & Anaesthesia faculty
  • Modern simulation OT units replicating real hospital environments
  • Strong collaborations with multi-specialty hospitals
  • Exposure to advanced surgeries (laparoscopy, cardiac, ortho, neuro, obstetric)
  • Training in both anaesthesia and operation theatre sciences
  • Focus on communication, discipline, and teamwork
  • Continuous evaluation through practicals, viva, and case logs

About The Course

The B.Sc. Operation Theatre & Anaesthesia Technology (OTAT) course is designed to train students in the science and skills required to assist surgeons, anaesthesiologists, and nursing teams during all surgical procedures. Students learn to manage the entire surgical environment — from pre-operative preparation to post-operative patient monitoring.

This program prepares students to become indispensable members of the surgical team by equipping them with knowledge of anaesthesia administration, sterile techniques, emergency management, and surgical instrumentation.

What Students Learn
